A number of research opportunities exist at Carolina to encourage undergraduate students, particularly students from groups underrepresented in the sciences, to pursue an advanced degree:
- The Summer Pre-Graduate Research Experience Program
(SPGRE seeks to address the obvious shortage of Ph.D. recipients from underrepresented groups, particularly those from African American, Native American, Mexican American, and Puerto Rican populations.) - The Summer Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program
