G.E.A.B. Impact Awards

Sponsored by UNC-Chapel Hill Graduate School's Graduate Education Advancement Board, the Impact Awards recognize graduate students whose research provides special benefits to the citizens of North Carolina. That impact can be basic as well as applied. It can have a direct impact on the citizens of North Carolina (and beyond) or a more indirect impact through new knowledge or insights gained, educational, economic, health, social and cultural, or environmental effects that will be derived from the research endeavor. Previous Impact Award winners' research includes a graduate student's original theatrical production, research on the state's business history, a study of high school athletic injuries, and a novel approach to targeting cancer cells.

Students from all of UNC-Chapel Hill's graduate and professional programs are encouraged to apply. Graduates within the last three years also are eligible to apply.

Awardees receive a cash award and their research projects are recognized at the Graduate School's Annual Recognition Event.

The Impact Award winners, along with members of the Royster Society of Fellows, also act as graduate student ambassadors, talking to community groups throughout the state about their work.
