  1. For these purposes, “doctoral” is used to refer to students in a doctoral degree program or a master’s-then-doctoral program. “Master’s” refers to a student enrolled in any terminal, professional, or stand-alone master’s program.
  2. Royster, Reynolds, Pogue, Kenan, Humphreys, & Morehead Fellows receive a stipend of at least $22,000, tuition, fees, and health insurance for 5 years. The Graduate School provides entire stipend, tuition, fees, TR, and health insurance for the 1st and 5th years. Starting in the 2nd year, the department will provide stipend support (RA or TA) of at least the minimum rate for TAs, as required for tuition support, currently in effect at that time. As this required minimum stipend level increases, the stipend provided these fellows must increase to meet this required minimum rate. The Graduate School will supplement the departmental stipend in years 2-4 to produce a total fellowship stipend of $22,000 or more. The Graduate School’s stipend contribution will remain the same for years 2-4. These Fellows also receive $1,000 travel funding in final year.
  3. Priority given to applicants for whom their department makes a commitment for future funding (including teaching or research assistantship). Please note that new legislation has change Minority Presence goal to recruiting diverse applicants broadly defined. Available to North Carolina residents only.
  4. Weiss Supplemental Award requires a base stipend of support (TA or RA) from students’ department at the minimum stipend level for TAs or RAs, as required for tuition support. The Graduate School will provide a supplemental stipend of $4,000 for master’s students and $6,000 for doctoral students. Out-of-state tuition is provided by The Graduate School, if necessary; in-state tuition is shared on a pro-rated basis, depending upon the departmental stipend provided.
  5. In-state tuition and health insurance costs are divided pro-rata amongst all stipend sources.
  6. All benefits described here are provided during the 9-month academic year. Graduate programs may provide summer support or supplement stipends.

  2. Eligible research will demonstrate an impact, direct or indirect, on NC citizens.
  3. For 2012-2013 award, eligible students include those who graduate between July 1, 2011 and May 2013.
  4. One award in each of the following four areas: Social Sciences; humanities & fine arts; biological & life sciences; mathematics, physical sciences & engineering
  5. Students must receive a competitively-awarded external fellowship in support of their thesis or dissertation research with a stipend of:
    Doctoral students: $14,000-$20,000 ($7,000-$10,000/semester)
    Masters students: $10,000-$16,000 ($5,000-$8,000/semester)
  6. Reviewed upon receipt.

  2. Students must complete the Student Health Eligibility Form
  3. Must be a fully-enrolled, degree-seeking, on-campus student. Required to register for 3 credit hours of 994 only.
  4. Only available to doctoral students for study in France.
  5. Preference is given to doctoral students who need to study or conduct research in Switzerland. Must be from the following programs: History, Art History, Music, and Humanities
  6. Also receives a $1,000 travel allowance to cover travel costs associated with presenting research.
