Battle Park was named for Kemp Plummer Battle, President of the University during the Civil War
Reconstruction period, from 1876-1891. His home, "Senlac," located at Battle Lane/Boundary Street corner is now the
University's Baptist Student Headquarters. Battle Park is now home to the Forest Theater and a section of the
Chapel Hill Greenways network of trails. The feeling of wilderness imparted by these woods to the whole campus
is one of the distinctive features that has helped make the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill a favorite
school of choice for over two centuries [2].
