Graduate student stipend statement of support

The Graduate Student Experience (GSE) initiative is dedicated to ensuring that UNC-Chapel Hill maintains robust support for student success and overall well-being. The GSE Steering Committee recognizes that graduate and professional student stipends play a critical role in supporting the health, well-being, and academic success of our students.

To remain competitive with peer institutions in attracting and retaining talented graduate and professional students, especially in the context of inflation and increasing housing costs, it is essential that UNC-Chapel Hill demonstrate a commitment to student success through adequate financial support. As such, the GSE Steering Committee supports an increase in graduate and professional student stipends to alleviate some of the financial burdens and stress that our graduate and professional students face, and in turn, to improve student recruitment, overall satisfaction, and retention rates.
